Founded in the year 1866, the congregation of Mother of Carmel, became the first native congregation for women in India, belonging to the Syro Malabar Church. St. Chavara, as a great educationalist, paved the way for making his educational contributions, which laid a strong foundation for a just society, in which all human beings were worthy of justice, respect and dignity. His educational reforms brought a new dawn in the educational history of Kerala. St. Chavara, who sensed the need to empower women to uplift the dignity of women, took bold steps in its actualization. The then CMC Congregation Members were entrusted with the education and training of girls, so that the future mother's would be enlightened to instruct and guide their children, true enough to the charism of the CMC, which is the personal sanctity and redemptive upliftment of the people of God, especially through women and children, through the right blending of contemplation and action. Yet a few other contributions of our Founder, regarding education, were,: Schools adjoined to every parish, boarding schools attached to convents, initiation of women empowerment program etc. And bearing in mind, the charism of our Founder, St. Paul’s Convent Kuriachira, belonging to the Nirmala Province Thrissur, who seprimary mission undertaken, being education envisaged the commencement of St. Paul’s C E H S which was later upgraded to a higher Secondary school.
We are indeed blessed with two great saints in our Congregation. One being Our Founder, St. Chavara, a great visionary leader of the time, who envisaged many a plan, for the spiritual and social progress of the church and society, at a time when the Kerala Society was indeed a backward one, at the social, cultural and educational level. And the other, is St. Euphrasia, also known as the "Praying Mother", who led a life dedicated to prayer and sufferings. Her pious secluded life in the Convent, at Ollur, where she spent most of her time, praying in the Chapel, has showered us with abundant graces and continue to do so even today.
A word about our Patron Pau lwho was born as Saulat Tarsus about the year 10AD was a zealous Jew who persecuted the early the Christians bu this encounter with the risen Christon his way to Damascus to persecute them changes him completely from the worst persecutor to a staunch believer & defender of Christ. This transformation by divine intervention went on to make Paul“ Apostle to the gentiles’’ because he played a crucial role in spreading the gospel to the gentiles. He also contributed to the growth of the Christianity. He was martyred by Emperor Nero around the year 67AD.
